Large Visnuite Monument, Khmer

An extremely rare and extraordinary example of the finest, most delicate and precise stone work possible. The expression “awe inspiring” is truly an appropriate term for this piece. It features hundreds of tiny Vishnu figures delicately carved on all four sides.
It is mounted on a tall museum quality bronze gun metal finished stand.

The provenance of th piece is not known, although the style is thought to be Bayon (1177-1237). As it would be a monument of major religious significance, it is unlikely that this piece is an authentic ancient artifact. It was probably the result of a collaboration of a village of Cambodian restoration carvers who happened upon a piece of magnificent stone and decided to build the most exotic and detailed type of Khmer artistry their skills would permit. This piece was a project that probably took years to complete.

The age of this piece is unknown.
