The Ancient Collection

This hand made collection is inspired by the Majapahit, Roman and Bactrian styles, wherein proportions are generous and attention is drawn towards girth, sheer weight and hand hewn splendor.

The contrasting emphasis of modern contemporary jewelry is on a refined and economical finish, facilitated by superfine hollow casting and laser technology etc. Even the most impressive of these efficiently manufactured pieces often lack the weight, size and thus the inherent luxury of ancient jewelry.

Apart from adornment, ancient jewelry was used as a store of wealth and to indicate status.

Each piece in this collection is an original hand made piece – our highly skilled Balinese and Javanese smiths use primitive tools. No casting, laser or high tech equipment is used to forge these works of art.

This collection is made in very generous proportions of pure 925 silver and heavily coated with 5 microns of durable mat finish gold. To produce in pure gold would mean enormous cost as some pieces are 90+ grams in weight. We however do make a limited 22 carat gold collection, so far only gold rings in the Majapahit style of ancient Java which are mostly set with large Ruby cabochons.

In ancient times gem stones where mostly opaque or heavily included cabochons and size and color was what determined value. Clarity was less of an issue, mines where not so deep and flawless finely faceted gems almost non existent. Stones are set traditionally in rough bezels wherein the stone is often slightly loose, but is held securely.

We hope you will enjoy this collection of earring, pendants, bangles and rings and are sure you will appreciate the look and feel of authentic ancient luxury.
